The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed on 10 December 1948: for the very first time in human history a document was produced that affected every person in the world.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed on 10 December 1948: for the very first time in human history a document was produced that affected every person in the world.
Every one of us, regardless of where we are born or live, has these rights.
Every one of us has civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights.
Every one of us is equal to others.
Is this always the case?
In HUMAN RIGHTS?, the artists speak of human rights. The simple, direct title, with no frills, expresses the fundamental concept that should be part of everyone's life.
This exhibition touches upon uncomfortable, complex and guilt-inducing issues which pierce the conscience of anyone who, while fully enjoying their own rights, does not consider those whose rights are trampled every day.
The logic of HUMAN RIGHTS? is based on the fundamental concept of art as a universal form of expression, comprehensible to all regardless of their language and culture, independent of gender, subject matter and mediums used.
Just as the Bell of the Fallen is considered the greatest historical and moral symbol of the 20th century's most terrible tragedy, Lampedusa can be considered a symbolic place of conflict in the age of globalisation: the violation of human rights and disrespect for human dignity. The Bell in Rovereto is the most important symbol of peace in a city that boasts the title "City of Peace"; a city born from the rubble of the First World War, a city torn apart by conflict, which succeeded in coming back to life as a symbol of lasting peace. The concept of globalisation cannot be considered merely from the angle of economics, but from a social perspective; the term globalisation must be associated with the term migrant.
Indeed, the word migrant expresses an international concept, just like Maria Dolens. The central theme of the 21st century is globalisation, and therefore migration and migrants. In this context, HUMAN RIGHTS? #MIGRANTS is the central theme of this special edition, whose aim is to take a closer look at issues connected with situations which are apparently far away, but which actually become part of our day-to-day lives. Once again the artists offer a creative perspective for their denunciation of hardship, by means of the many art forms and languages encompassed by this event.
